Cordel Group PLC (AIM:CRDL)has won another contract with Angel Trains, the UK’s major rolling stock lessor, this time on the West Coast Main Line to monitor the state of the track and other infrastructure.
The group’s Locate software system will be used to pinpoint track geometry data gathered from High Speed Class 390 tilting trains.
Cordel added it is a more cost-effective and frequent alternative to the current dedicated infrastructure monitoring trains, which are supplemented by ‘boots-on-ballast’ inspections.
Information generated by Locate will be sent to infrastructure engineers to enable track maintenance to be optimised.
Angel Trains' Product Manager Infrastructure Monitoring, Brian Reynolds said, "Effective engineering hardware and software collaboration with Cordel and the team should deliver cohesive and streamlined solutions.
“[Track owner] Network Rail will be able to deliver increased availability for operators and more reliable services for passengers using Cordel's infrastructure inspection process."
Cordel chief executive, John Davis said: "By capturing track geometry data from in-service trains, Cordel will deliver rapid, refined and relevant feedback on the quality of the track.”
Shares in Cordel were flat at 7.13p.
