Anthropic reportedly headed for $60bn valuation in latest funding round

AI startup Anthropic is in advanced discussions to raise $2 billion in funding, potentially valuing the company at $60 billion, according to The Wall Street Journal citing sources.

Lightspeed Venture Partners is reportedly leading the round, which would include the raised capital in the valuation.

Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees, Anthropic has positioned itself as a key competitor in the booming generative AI space with its ChatGPT rival Claude.

The company has seen traction with its AI tools, particularly in sectors like finance and healthcare, and is projected to generate $875 million in annual revenue.

In November, Amazon announced a $4 billion investment in Anthropic through convertible notes, with $1.3 billion already disbursed.

Menlo Ventures, a prior backer, is also expected to reinvest, the WSJ report says.
