GoviEx Uranium reflects on renewed focus on Muntanga project

GoviEx Uranium Inc (TSX-V:GXU, OTCQX:GVXXF) executive chairman Govind Friedland has reflected on a transformative year for the company in 2024 as it has refocused on its Muntanga project in Zambia.

In a letter to shareholders, Friedland expressed optimism about Muntanga's role in positioning GoviEx as a globally significant uranium producer.

“With long-term uranium prices showing sustained strength and the growing recognition of nuclear energy's critical role in a low-carbon future, the timing for this project could not be more opportune,” he wrote in the letter.

Extensive technical studies have validated the project’s potential. The company achieved 90% uranium recovery in metallurgical testing and completed most aspects of its feasibility study, including geotechnical and water management plans.

The study is expected to conclude soon, Friedland told shareholders. Environmental and social assessments, aligned with International Finance Corporation guidelines, are also nearing completion.

Friedland also noted that the loss of rights to the Madaouela project in Niger marked a major setback for GoviEx.

“Madaouela was a project into which we poured over a decade of dedication, with more than 650,000 meters of drilling and the discovery of one of the world's largest known uranium resources,” Friedland wrote.

“Around the time these rights were revoked, we were actively pursuing financing opportunities for Madaouela, some at a very advanced stage.”

The company has initiated arbitration under the ICSID Convention to contest the revocation, remaining committed to protecting its interests while keeping communication open with the Nigerien state.
