Rolls-Royce headed the early fallers after facing a downgrade by Citi analysts, which took the bank’s rating on the engine maker from a ‘buy’ to a ‘neutral’.
Unilever followed as it also faced a broker downgrade, which saw RBC bump the consumer goods firm from a ‘sector perform’ to an ‘underperform’ rating.
Elsewhere, Amazon made headlines on news it plans to roll out a satellite broadband service in the UK in competition with Elon Musk’s Starlink.
And finally, discounter Aldi was the latest to unveil Christmas trading figures, which showed sales over the course of December up 3.4% at £1.6 billion.
