Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) saw continued strong vehicle sales in the fourth quarter, with US retail sales up 17% from the same period last year.
This contributed to full-year retail sales growth of 6%, which the Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker noted was double the estimated rate of the overall retail automotive industry.
Leading the gains were F-Series trucks, which saw a 25% jump in retail sales in Q4 and making them America’s best-selling truck for the 48th year in a row.
Ford reported overall Q4 sales up 9%, resulting in 2,078,832 vehicles sold for 2024. This marked a 4% year-over-year increase and outpacing the broader industry's estimated growth of 2%.
Ford’s electric vehicles, including its hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric models, saw record-breaking sales in 2024, with 285,291 units sold, a 38% increase over the previous year.
Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, and E-Transit each achieved their best annual sales figures, with the Mustang Mach-E becoming the second best-selling electric SUV in the US after Tesla’s Model Y.
Hybrid vehicle sales rose 40% year-over-year to 187,426 units. The F-150 Hybrid stood out, claiming the title of America’s best-selling hybrid truck with 73,845 units sold, a 47% increase over 2023.
Meanwhile, Ford’s SUV Explorer remained America’s best-selling three-row SUV with annual sales of 194,094 units.
Bronco and Bronco Sport models combined for a strong fourth quarter, achieving a 38% sales increase and a total of 233,873 units sold for the year.
In the commercial segment, Ford’s Super Duty pickups and full-size vans maintained leadership, with Transit sales rising 18% year-over-year to 152,738 units, securing its position as the top-selling van in America.
Lincoln also experienced a standout year, with 2024 sales rising 28% to 104,823 vehicles, the brand’s best retail performance in 17 years. The Nautilus and Aviator drove this growth, posting significant year-over-year increases in both quarterly and annual sales.
Ford shares traded higher following the update, up 1.8% at $9.82 at midday on Friday.
