American Airlines Group Inc (NASDAQ:AAL, ETR:A1G) flights have resumed after being halted nationwide on one of the busiest travel days of the year due to a technical issue.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the airline requested a ground stop for all its flights, which was lifted about an hour later.
"A vendor technology issue briefly affected flights this morning," American said in a statement. "That issue has been resolved and flights have resumed."
American apologized to its customers for the inconvenience
"It’s all hands on deck as our team is working diligently to get customers where they need to go as quickly as possible," the airline said.
The disruption comes as a record number of Americans are expected to travel this holiday season. The Transportation Security Administration anticipates nearly 40 million travelers to be screened between December 19 and January 2, a 6.2% increase from 2023.
