Ocean Power Technologies Inc (NYSE-A:OPTT) announced that it has completed the final assembly of its AI-capable Merrows PowerBuoy for the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS).
The provider of intelligent maritime solutions said the advanced system, which integrates AT&T 5G technology and subsea sensors, is designed for seamless integration with Maritime Domain Awareness platforms.
It is now ready for shipment and set for deployment in early 2025, coinciding with NPS’s Technology Showcase in January.
Once deployed, the PowerBuoy will enable continuous, autonomous monitoring and data collection in a critical maritime region, which the company highlighted as a significant milestone in its strategic development plan.
“We believe the results from the upcoming deployment with NPS will also further demonstrate the ability to deploy PowerBuoy’s as 5G communication nodes across the coastline of the United States,” OPT CEO Philipp Stratmann said.
“As more and more customers are looking for rapidly deployable systems, OPT’s superior technology and the aforementioned institutional financing will further enhance our growing services business."
