Cadburys is among 100 brands and products to have had their royal warrants withdrawn by King Charles in his second list since ascending the throne.
A fixture since 1854 when it was first given a royal warrant by Queen Victoria, Cadburys is now owned by conglomerate Mondelez International Inc (NASDAQ:MDLZ, ETR:KTF), which has been heavily criticised for its continuing presence in Russia.
Other companies that can no longer claim royal approval are Marmite and Dove giant Unilever and posh chocolate group Charbonnel et Walker.
Only two chocolatiers now remain on the list, Bendicks and Prestat, though Kit Kat maker Nestlé is also present despite it too being criticised by pro-Ukraine groups.
According to the Daily Mail, which reported the story, the companies are informed by letter that they are being removed but not the reason why
In a statement Mondelēz said: “Whilst we are disappointed to be one of hundreds of other businesses and brands in the UK to not have a new warrant awarded, we are proud to have previously held one, and we fully respect the decision.”
