Ideal Power CEO Daniel Brdar joined Steve Darling from Proactive to share news announcing the company’s first design win for its innovative solid-state circuit breakers with a leading Asian circuit protection equipment manufacturer serving the industrial and utility markets. This milestone was solidified through a joint development agreement between Ideal Power and its new partner. The collaboration involves designing, prototyping, and testing an SSCB product utilizing Ideal Power’s patented B-TRAN technology.
Development is on track for completion in Q2 2025, with commercial sales expected to follow later in the year. Brdar highlighted the revenue potential stemming from this partnership, estimating that the customer’s first B-TRAN-enabled product could generate several hundred thousand dollars in the first year alone. As adoption scales, the opportunity could surpass $1 million in revenue during the second year of sales. The partner company has a robust, decades-long reputation for innovation and a significant foothold in the Asian market.
Currently selling over 200,000 circuit breakers annually, they cater to large, established customers in sectors such as renewable energy, industrial equipment circuit protection, utility grid infrastructure, and power distribution.
The initial SSCB product will specifically target grid-tied solar and energy storage providers, as well as utility electric distribution networks, positioning Ideal Power’s B-TRAN technology as a transformative solution for modern energy systems. B-TRAN solid-state circuit breakers offer significant advantages, including higher efficiency, lower power losses, and greater reliability compared to traditional mechanical circuit breakers. Brdar emphasized that this design win represents a pivotal step for Ideal Power, marking the first commercial application of B-TRAN in the circuit protection market.
