London stock market to welcome Paddington producer Canal+ next week

The London Stock Exchange will welcome some much-needed new blood when Canal+ lists on Monday 16 December, following a spin out from parent company Vivendi.

Shareholders of the French media conglomerate voted to approve the "split project" of the company on Tuesday.

Canal++, which owns Paddington film series producer StudioCanal+, is hoping to be valued at close to £8 billion, according to reports, though some in the City see around half that amount as more realistic.

Following approval of the split by Vivendi's investors, the listing of Canal++ shares has been pencilled in for December 16.

For the Square Mile, a relatively well-known new addition will provide a welcomed boost, with only 10 companies having listed in London in the first nine months of 2024, drumming up a total of £584.6 million, down 47% compared to the same period in 2023, with last year seeing the second-lowest total in three decades.

Bloomberg reported today that London slipped four spots lower to 20th place in a ranking of global IPO venues, trailing the stock exchanges from 'frontier' markets including Oman and Malaysia in the year's rankings.
