Poolbeg Pharma PLC (AIM:POLB) has unveiled promising pre-clinical results for its therapy POLB 001 ahead of its presentation at the 66th American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting in San Diego.
POLB 001, designed to prevent Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS), a severe side effect of cancer immunotherapy, showed significant benefits in pre-clinical studies.
Specifically, the data demonstrated that POLB 001 effectively reduced CRS symptoms and key inflammatory molecules, including TNF and IL-6, outperforming Adalimumab, a standard treatment.
Administered in varying doses, POLB 001 showed consistent improvements without harmful effects in tumour-bearing mouse models.
CRS occurs when the immune system overreacts to cancer therapies, potentially leading to life-threatening complications. Poolbeg’s findings bolster the potential of POLB 001 as a safer, more effective option for managing this condition, addressing a significant unmet need in cancer care.
The results position POLB 001 as a strong candidate for further development and eventual clinical trials.
