Bitcoin hits $104k before slumping 13% as Trump appoints new AI and crypto czar - Crypto Roundup

Proactive’s Billy Farrington joined Stephen Gunnion for this week’s Crypto Roundup, unpacking Bitcoin's historic surge to $104,000. This marked the first time Bitcoin crossed the $100k threshold, though it faced sharp volatility, dropping to $90,500 within hours. At the time of recording, Bitcoin stabilised at $98,500, a modest 3% weekly increase.

Farrington attributed the market’s excitement to former US President Donald Trump’s pro-crypto appointments. Highlights included the naming of David Sacks, ex-COO of PayPal and a vocal crypto supporter, as the White House AI and Crypto Tsar. Additionally, the replacement of Gary Gensler at the SEC with a pro-crypto chair was seen as another bullish catalyst.

Looking ahead, analysts remain optimistic. Predictions from HANetf and Coinsillium suggest Bitcoin could reach $150k to $250k in the coming years, though Farrington cautioned that Bitcoin’s inherent volatility means anything is possible.
