Charlotte Tilbury product withdrawal expected to hit Puig’s near-term earnings

Shares in Charlotte Tilbury owner Puig fell today after the premium cosmetics brand withdrew some Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray batches due to a quality issue.

The Barcelona-based company, which also owns Jean Paul Gaultier and Rabanne, said this "global voluntary withdrawal" followed routine tests identifying an isolated issue in a limited number of batches.

Puig stated that the £32 product remains safe and no other items in the range are affected.

Puig's shares fell as much as 9% but have since recovered to a 4.75% decline.

Commenting on the withdrawal, analysts at broker Citi said: “As we understand, this withdrawal only impacts the 34ml and 100ml sizes of products, with 200ml not affected.

“The quality issue does not relate to product safety, and no other CT products are affected.”

Citi expects a low-single-digit earnings-per-share downgrade because of the issue, driven by a 30-basis-point organic sales growth headwind.
