Elon Musk's xAI's value doubles after $6bn fundraiser

xAI, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence venture, has raised $6 billion in its latest funding round, according to a US Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

Ninety-seven investors participated, contributing a minimum of $77,593 each, though their identities remain undisclosed.

Notable firms like Valor Equity Partners, Sequoia Capital, and Qatar Investment Authority reportedly joined the round.

This funding boosts xAI’s total capital to $12 billion, doubling its valuation to $50 billion within six months.

The funds support xAI’s flagship generative AI model, Grok, integrated into X (formerly Twitter) and other Musk-led companies like Tesla and SpaceX.

xAI’s rapid growth includes a Memphis data centre powered by 100,000 GPUs, critical for training AI models.

Despite legal and ethical controversies, xAI’s aggressive expansion positions it against competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic in the AI race.
