Ideal Power Inc (NASDAQ:IPWR) announced on Wednesday that it has secured a multi-unit order for its SymCool IQ intelligent power module from a customer specializing in circuit protection and power conversion solutions.
The order builds on prior purchases of the company’s SymCool power modules and drivers, with the customer exploring applications for SymCool and SymCool IQ modules in areas such as electric vehicles, EV charging, renewable energy, and data centers.
CEO Dan Brdar called the multi-unit order “a significant milestone in the commercialization of our B-TRAN technology.”
Ideal Power is developing its patented B-TRAN bidirectional semiconductor power switch for various industrial applications.
“SymCool IQ opens up additional markets for us including renewable energy, energy storage, and electric vehicle charging,” Brdar said in a statement.
“This customer is evaluating SymCool IQ for pairing renewable energy with energy storage to leverage its improved efficiency and bidirectionality.”
SymCool IQ integrates the multi-die bidirectional design of its predecessor with an intelligent driver optimized for bidirectional operation. Rated at 1200V and 200A, it offers lower losses, reduced thermal management requirements, and inherent bidirectionality compared to traditional IGBT modules.
Key features include overcurrent and undervoltage protection, temperature sensing, and a compact 62-millimeter industrial-standard package.
Ideal Power aims to position SymCool IQ as a solution for original equipment manufacturers seeking energy-efficient and cost-effective components for their products.
The Austin, Texas-based company focuses on expanding its technology into growing markets such as renewable energy, energy storage, and electric mobility.
