NEXE Innovations Inc (TSX-V:NEXE, OTC:NEXNF) said it has expanded its intellectual property (IP) portfolio recently with new patents.
The company’s growing IP portfolio now includes five recently granted patents in Canada and the United States.
This includes US patents for coffee capsules with innovative filters to enhance the extraction of Total Dissolved Solids, capsules with inner chambers for mixing alcohol with brewed coffee, and methods using ultrasonic welding for manufacturing compostable pods from biobased polymers.
Another US patent covers beverage pods designed to optimize brewing efficiency by incorporating breakaway features, reducing the need for agglomeration food powders, which can negatively impact shelf life and taste.
Additionally, a Canadian patent protects a design for coffee pods with an internal registration plate that allows for more coffee grounds per pod.
Further, an allowed US application details methods for manufacturing compostable pods with deformable protrusions for secure lidding connections.
The company specializes in creating compostable materials and products, including single-serve coffee pods.
It has developed proprietary methods for manufacturing thin-walled, multi-layer containers and creating strong connections between compostable materials, enabling the production of customized food-grade packaging solutions.
Recent achievements include the development of compostable containers optimized for low-pressure environments, designed for use in high-altitude markets.
It has also introduced aftermarket brew baskets compatible with existing single-serve beverage machines which allow the use of multi-chamber capsules, such as high-capacity pods designed for brewing coffee-based cocktails like Irish Cream Liqueur and coffee.
"In our view, NEXE is at the forefront of sustainable manufacturing, combining innovation and environmental responsibility to redefine everyday consumer products,” NEXE president Ash Guglani said in a statement.
“Our proprietary technologies and diverse IP portfolio enable us to deliver fully compostable solutions that meet international standards while pushing the boundaries of what's possible in single-use products.”
