The United States Postal Service (USPS) has temporarily suspended accepting mail bound for Canada as a strike by Canada Post workers continues into the holiday season.
The mail and package delivery service asked customers to refrain from mailing items addressed to Canada until further notice.
This comes after about 55,000 members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers walked off the job on November 15.
Canada Post on Sunday presented a framework to the union to reach negotiated agreements.
A key sticking point in the negotiations has the push to extend parcel deliveries into the weekend, with the union and Canada Post unable to agree on an approach.
Canada Post the framework includes proposals to bring enhanced flexibility to the service’s delivery model and “movement on other key issues.”
"It is our hope that these proposals will reignite discussions and, together with the support of mediators, help the parties work toward final agreements," said a statement.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers said on its website that its negotiators are reviewing the framework documents.
It added that both the union and Canada Post have revised their demands with the goal of restarting talks. It is unclear when negotiations will resume.
