We've had 'Barbenheimer', now 'Glicked' - the portmanteau word for the films Gladiator II and Wicked - seems to have clicked with the American cinema-going public.
Such has been the success of the two blockbuster movies, and a third release, Red One, that AMC Entertainment Holdings (NYSE:AMC) has enjoyed a record-breaking Thanksgiving holiday.
In doing so, it drew in more than 8.8 million moviegoers worldwide from Wednesday to Sunday.
In the US, the big screen giant set all-time highs for attendance, admissions, and food and beverage sales during the five-day period, marking the busiest Thanksgiving in its 104-year history.
The excitement peaked on Black Friday, November 29, which became AMC’s highest-ever revenue Friday, combining ticket and concession sales, and its second-busiest day overall.
Thanksgiving Day itself was also a standout, setting new attendance and revenue benchmarks.
"Apparently, movie fans decided in droves that Thanksgiving dinner is made all the better when accompanied by some delicious AMC popcorn, an ice-cold Coca-Cola, and a great film to watch as showcased on AMC’s huge silver screens," said AMC CEO Adam Aron.
The shares opened 2.2% higher at $5.06.
