Recce Pharmaceuticals secures Australian patent for anti-infectives; covered in all major markets

An Australian patent has formally been granted for the new class of synthetic anti-infectives Recce Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX:RCE, OTC:RECEF) has been working to bring to market.

The Australian Patent Office signed off on Patent Family 3 for Recce’s anti-infectives, which will expire in 2037.

This Family 3 patent is the last piece of the puzzle for Recce, whose assets are now fully patent-protected in all major pharmaceutical markets globally.

Full set of patents

The patent claims relate to RECCE® 327 (R327) and RECCE® 529 (R529), and include:

  • process for the manufacture of RECCE® Anti-infectives and a copolymer made by the claimed process;
  • use of R327 or R529 for the treatment of infections; and
  • methods of administration of R327 or R529 by oral, injection, inhalation and transdermal dose applications.

Recce’s process, use and method for the novel anti-infectives are now covered until 2037 in Australia, the US, China, Europe (Germany, Spain, France, the UK, Italy, Sweden), Japan and Hong Kong.

“We are thrilled by the Australian Patent Office’s formal recognition of the ground-breaking potential of Recce’s New Class of Anti-Infectives,” Recce Pharmaceuticals CEO James Graham said.

“The granting of Patent Family 3 solidifies our global intellectual property portfolio, providing protection for R327 and R529 across all major pharmaceutical markets until 2037.

“This milestone underscores our commitment to addressing critical viral threats with innovative therapies and ensures we are well-positioned to deliver meaningful solutions for patients worldwide.”

About Recce Pharmaceuticals

Recce is advancing a novel class of synthetic anti-infectives targeting antibiotic-resistant superbugs.

Its pipeline includes three patented, broad-spectrum candidates:

  • RECCE® 327 (R327) - An intravenous and topical therapy for severe bacterial infections caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including superbugs.
  • RECCE® 435 (R435) - An oral therapy for bacterial infections.
  • RECCE® 529 (R529) - A treatment for viral infections.

These therapies employ multi-layered mechanisms of action designed to overcome resistance challenges faced by existing antibiotics.

Recognising Recce's innovation, the World Health Organization (WHO) listed its therapies among antibacterial products for priority pathogens.

The US FDA granted R327 Qualified Infectious Disease Product and Fast Track Designation under the GAIN Act, offering 10 years of market exclusivity upon approval.

Additionally, R327 is the only synthetic polymer and sepsis drug candidate featured in The Pew Charitable Trusts’ Global New Antibiotics Pipeline.

Recce fully owns its automated manufacturing capabilities, ensuring seamless support for its clinical trials, and aims to address unmet medical needs with its cutting-edge technologies.
