Ananda Developments hails publication of article in TIPS scientific journal

Ananda Developments Plc (AQSE:ANA) flagged to investors the publication of an article in a top scientific journal that highlights cannabidiol's (CBD) promise as a therapeutic agent to treat endometriosis.

The article, entitled 'Endometriosis: cannabidiol therapy for symptom relief', was published in Trends in Pharmacological Science (TIPS), ranked in the top 2% of journals around the globe.

Ananda noted that authors, led by three academics at the University of Edinburgh and Professor Clive Page and Charles Morgan of Ananda, said CBD is a promising therapeutic agent for endometriosis as it has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, anti-angiogenic, antiproliferative, and neuroprotective effects.

Analysing data from patient samples and animal models focussed on the pathophysiology of endometriosis, the article also considers the available formulations of CBD-containing products, their pharmacokinetics and their use in ongoing clinical trials in endometriosis and other pain conditions.

Morgan, who is Ananda's chairman, said in the statement to investors that the company is encouraged by the recognition gained by the review being published in such a prestigious journal.

"We look forward to working with investigators at the University of Edinburgh as they test this hypothesis in the upcoming ENDOCAN clinical trial," he said.

"Our involvement with this research is part of Ananda's commitment to developing a licensed CBD-based medicine, available on the NHS, for the treatment of the symptoms of endometriosis, a condition which affects 10% of women globally."
