The US Justice Department is urging a judge to order Alphabet Inc's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Google to sell its Chrome browser, a landmark move targeting one of the world's largest tech firms.
According to a Bloomberg report, the action follows an August ruling that found Google guilty of monopolising the search market.
The department also seeks measures affecting artificial intelligence and Android operations, alongside data licensing rules to enhance competition.
Federal Judge Amit Mehta will consider proposals, which could reshape the search and AI sectors.
Google argues the measures would harm innovation and consumers. The Justice Department did not comment.
Chrome’s dominance, with 61% US market share, is key to Google's ad revenue and AI integration.
Proposed remedies include separating Android from other products and expanding data-sharing for advertisers.
