Leeuwin Metals expands iron footprint at West Pilbara Project with rock chip samples up to 54.66% iron

Leeuwin Metals Ltd (ASX:LM1) has unearthed additional iron mineralisation in follow-up rock chip sampling undertaken at the West Pilbara Iron Project in WA.

The company’s efforts produced results of up to 54.66% iron (Fe), 61.48% calcium-iron (Ca Fe) 2.01% aluminium oxide (Al2O3), 8.12% silica oxide (SiO2), 0.01% phosphorus (P) and 11.09% loss on ignition (LOI).

The mineralised zone now stretches over a footprint of more than 2.4 kilometres of strike, remaining open in multiple directions for further exploration.

Securing tenement rights

“The additional assay results received from the West Pilbara Iron Ore Project continue to confirm the grade and significant scale of the mineralisation at the project,” Leeuwin Metals managing director Christopher Piggott said.

“These results are from only the second round of exploration at the project, where we have been able to define +50% Fe surface samples over 2.4 kilometres.

“The project is located in a great location with Rio Tinto’s Mesa A mine only 13 kilometres down the highway.

“We are continuing to progress all required third party agreements as we are aiming to have the tenement granted in Q1 2025 and advance exploration.”

Other rock chip samples of note include:

  • 54.19% Fe, 60.78% Ca Fe, 2.66% Al2O3, 7.65% SiO2, 0.20% P, 10.84% LOI;
  • 53.05% Fe, 59.35% Ca Fe, 1.90% Al2O3, 11.62% SiO2, 0.02% P, 10.62% LOI;
  • 52.14% Fe, 57.98% Ca Fe, 2.57% Al2O3, 12.50% SiO2, 0.02% P, 10.08% LOI;
  • 51.66% Fe, 58.05% Ca Fe, 4.09% Al2O3, 9.96% SiO2, 0.12% P, 11.01% LOI; and
  • 50.41% Fe, 56.39% Ca Fe, 3.83% Al2O3, 12.61% SiO2, 0.02% P, 10.60% LOI.

LM1’s upcoming exploration programs will focus on additional mapping and rock chip sampling, working towards a drilling program in 2025, with a focus on channel iron deposits similar to Rio Tinto’s Mesa A mine.
