Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL, ETR:APC) is preparing to release its second-generation AirTag by mid-2025 along with the refreshed iPad Air and MacBook Air models, according to a Bloomberg report.
While retaining a similar design to the current model, the new AirTag, codenamed B589, is expected to deliver significant upgrades in functionality, safety, and performance.
The updated AirTag is anticipated to feature a new Ultra Wideband chip, improving location accuracy and expanding its range for Precision Finding.
Additionally, privacy enhancements are a key focus, addressing concerns about misuse. For instance, modifications will make the built-in speaker more difficult to tamper with, helping to combat stalking risks.
Beyond these improvements, the second-generation AirTag may also integrate with Apple’s Vision Pro headset, per the report.
Originally launched in 2021, the AirTag has become a popular tool for tracking items like luggage, pets, and keys.
