Medicus Pharma (TSX-V:MDCX, NASDAQ:MDCX) Ltd has announced the appointment of Faisal Mehmud, formerly of GSK PLC (LSE:GSK, NYSE:GSK) and Pfizer Inc (NYSE:PFE, ETR:PFE), as chief medical officer.
Mehmud has over 20 years of experience as a senior medical executive in clinical development, medical affairs and drug safety, Medicus said on Monday.
He most recently served as GSK’s data generation and scientific communications senior vice president, having held senior roles at Pfizer, Sanofi, Novartis and Bristol Myers Squibb beforehand.
“Faisal has a proven track record in integrating cutting-edge science with practical, evidence-based medical strategies to develop partnerships and launch high-impact therapies,” Medicus chief executive Raza Bokhari commented.
“We aim to capitalize on his experience and expertise [...] to bring to market our novel non-invasive patented dissolvable doxorubicin-containing microneedle array (D-MNA) to treat non-melanoma skin cancer, especially basal cell carcinoma.”
Former chief medical officer Edward J Brennan will become Medicus’ chief scientific officer and head of research and development, the company added.
Bokahri noted Brennan’s promotion was “very timely” as Medicus carried out its phase two D-MNA study.
Medicus last week raised $4 million through an initial public offering in New York to support the trial.
