Sovereign Metals Ltd (ASX:SVM, OTC:SVMLF, AIM:SVML) Chief Commercial Officer Sapan Ghai talked with Proactive at the One2One Investor Forum about the company's Kasiya project in Malawi, which holds significant deposits of rutile and natural graphite. Ghai discussed the critical importance of these minerals in global industries, noting that rutile is "the cleanest, purest form of titanium mineral" and vital to aerospace, defence, and multiple consumer products.
The Kasiya project is described as hosting the largest known rutile deposit and the second-largest graphite deposit globally. Ghai highlighted the project's projected annual revenues of $645 million over 25 years, with an NPV of $2.50 billion.
He also noted ongoing optimisation efforts in partnership with Rio Tinto, which recently increased its stake in Sovereign Metals to 19.9%.
The discussion covered the strategic importance of rutile as global supply declines and graphite’s role in battery anodes, which power electric vehicles. According to Ghai, the graphite produced from Kasiya has been tested successfully in batteries, demonstrating performance comparable to or better than Chinese alternatives.
