Social media platform Bluesky has added more than 1 million new users in the week since the US election as X users look for an alternative platform to engage online.
Bluesky, a microblogging site created by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey in 2019, said on Wednesday its total users are now 15 million, up from 9 million in September.
“We’re excited to welcome all of these new people, ranging from Swifties to wrestlers to city planners,” Bluesky spokesperson Emily Liu said in a statement.
The platform has benefitted from an exodus of users leaving X, citing owner Elon Musk’s relationship with President-elect Donald Trump and hateful content as reasons why they have exited the platform.
On Wednesday, The Guardian said it would no longer be posting on X, attributing its exit to “far-right conspiracy theories and racism” on the platform.
