Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL, ETR:APC) is set to enter the smart home market with a wall-mounted display, designed to manage home appliances, support video calls, and offer AI-driven navigation through apps.
According to Bloomberg, the device is expected to debut by March, and is called internally “J490”.
It will act as a smart home command centre, with a six-inch touchscreen and voice-controlled interaction primarily via Siri and Apple Intelligence. Apple’s new platform, App Intents, will allow AI to manage apps and automate tasks.
The display, resembling a small iPad, will feature a camera, built-in speakers, and battery, available in silver and black, the Bloomberg report said.
It will support various Apple apps for browsing, music, notes, and video calls. Apple envisions the device as a competitor to Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub and will market it as an entry point to broader smart home management.
The display operates on a new system, Pebble OS, with proximity sensors to adapt its interface based on user distance.
Integrating with Apple’s HomeKit ecosystem, the device will prioritize security and may expand with smart home accessories, potentially including cameras.
