Soma Gold Corp. (TSX-V:SOMA, OTCQX:SMAGF) announced that initial results from its 2024 drill program at the Cordero Mine on the Bagre project in Columbia have extended the Venus Vein.
Ten diamond drill holes totalling 1,476 meters aimed to infill a gap in the Venus Vein.
Mining on the Venus Vein was previously halted after encountering a complex zone of mafic dykes and narrow, lower-grade anastomosing quartz veins.
The initial drill results have extended the strike of the vein to the northwest and down dip to the northeast.
The company said the program has highlighted wider zones of mineralized stockwork in the footwall and wall rock enclaves, with notable results including 7.55 meters at an average grade of 13.9 grams per ton of gold.
High-grade gold was found in two main quartz veins, that bound an interval of lower-grade, thin stockwork veins.
Underground drilling continues to assess vein continuity and mineralization within the Venus Gap zone.
"Extending the strike length of the Venus Vein is an important development for the Cordero Mine,” Soma's vice president exploration Chris Buchanan commented.
“Drilling in this area has returned some of the broadest, high-grade intervals in the mine. We look forward to further exploring this zone and extending it along strike and dip."
Additionally, Soma's exploration team is evaluating small-scale mines near Machuca, completing two of three planned soil grids to trace gold mineralization along the Otú Fault.
Initial results from the Machuca soil grid have identified three gold anomalies up to 900 meters in length, with follow-up prospecting underway and drilling expected in Q3 2024.
Soma's property covers over 56 kilometers of the Otú Fault, a 100 kilometre-long mineralized structure known for high-grade gold hosted in quartz veins formed through brittle faulting.
