Bitcoin hit a new all-time high of close to US$82,000 over the weekend as traders bet that the Trump regime would usher in a new boom in cryptocurrencies.
The value of the largest digital currency jumped 6% on Sunday and hit US$81,899 overnight as the Republicans looked set to gain control not only of the Presidency but both houses of Congress.
Trump extolled the appeal of digital assets during his campaign, promising to free up the US market and even establish a strategic stockpile.
The new President has also said repeatedly he will sack Gary Gensler, the current head of the financial regulator the SEC and a major barrier to the introduction of digital asset-backed products by Wall Street.
Elon Musk, a huge crypto supporter, also threw his weight completely behind Donald Trump with talk of him being granted a position as a digital tsar in the new administration.
Elections for Congress meanwhile have seen pro-Crypto supporters from both parties win in key states, while talk of a Trump-led borrowing splurge has seen investors also look for potential havens if the plan backfires.
In early trades this morning, bitcoin eased slightly to US$81,294.
