Powerhouse Energy Group PLC (AIM:PHE) said its patent for its waste-to-energy technology has been granted in Japan, marking its first approval outside the UK and Europe.
Issued by the Japanese Patent Office on November 8, the intellectual property protection covers a process to optimise the conversion of non-recyclable waste into low-carbon energy.
The technology involves a method to control heat across several zones in a device called a Thermal Conversion Chamber, which is essentially a kiln where waste materials are processed into syngas—a gas that can be used for energy.
This control allows the process to produce the most efficient syngas possible, improving energy output from waste materials.
Powerhouse, which also operates a consulting division, Engsolve, said it is in discussions with potential clients across various industries seeking sustainable waste solutions and reduced fossil fuel dependence. The company is also advancing other patent applications worldwide.
"I am delighted that this patent has been granted," said Powerhouse CEO Paul Emmitt.
"This is the third patent we have been granted and provides significant protection for the technology that differentiates PHE from others in the waste-to-energy sector; whilst also being the first patent granted to us outside of the UK / Europe.
