Asda has reportedly laid out plans to cut roles and demand workers return to the office three days a week under a turnaround plan following its takeover by TDR Capital.
According to The Telegraph, Asda chair Stuart Rose told staff in an email on Tuesday that a number of head office roles would be cut to “remove duplication and simplify structures”.
Changes were also unveiled to Asda’s attendance policy at its offices in Leicester and Leeds.
“Change is never easy and is unsettling, but the executive team believe it is necessary to enter 2025 in a stronger position, fully focused on serving our customers, delivering our ambitions and driving long-term growth,” he said.
It comes just weeks after Rose took the helm on an interim basis as Zuber Issa sold his stake in Asda and brother Mohsin Issa stepped down from a leadership role.
The supermarket has been shedding market share recently, with figures from Kantar showing this down at 12.6% in the 12 weeks to September, against 13.8% previously.
