Ikea finally offers the UK meatballs without the furniture

Anyone who has traipsed through an Ikea store just so that they can tuck into its famous meatballs and cheesecake at the end, rejoice, the need to look at endless rows of Scandinavian-designed furniture is over.

Ikea has opened its first UK High Street restaurant at a site in Hammersmith, next to a recently refurbished West London store and on the site of a former Wasabi.

With seating for 75 diners, a serving of eight meatballs, served with mashed potatoes, peas, cream sauce & lingonberry jam, costs £5.50.

Plant-based alternatives plus a cooked breakfast for between £2.75 and £3.75 are also on the menu.

'We know how much our customers love the IKEA restaurant and we're excited to celebrate the opening of our very first high street restaurant,' said Market Manager at IKEA London City, Matthew Gould.

“Fans of our delicious dishes can recharge during their shopping trip with our famous Swedish meatballs, pop in for a traditional Swedish ‘fika’ break for coffee and a sweet treat, or find an affordable meal for the kids right on the high street.”

As a nudge to what Ikea is really about, family club members get £5 off in-store if they spend £5 in the restaurant on the same day.
