Jack Dorsey has reportedly initiated layoffs at Tidal, the music streaming service owned by his company Block, as part of a restructuring aimed at making the company operate “like a startup.”
The cuts, primarily in design and engineering, will reduce Tidal’s workforce by about a quarter, according to employee estimates reported by Fortune.
In an internal email cited by the US press, Twitter founder Dorsey announced plans to eliminate product management and marketing roles and streamline operations, focusing on core functions to support artists more effectively.
Tidal, founded in 2015 as an artist-centered platform, was acquired by Block (formerly Square) in 2021 for $297 million.
Dorsey highlighted the potential for innovation at the “intersection of music and the economy,” promising Tidal would remain a cultural hub for artists.
