Shares in bookmakers galloped higher after the UK Budget, led by Ladbrokes and Coral owner Entain PLC (LSE:ENT), which rose over 8%, and William Hill owner Evoke PLC, rising 12%.
Paddy Power and Betfair owner Flutter Entertainment PLC (LSE:FLTR) also rose 6%.
The bookies had seen their shares fall earlier in the month on reports of a possible new gambling tax.
In the Budget, chancellor Rachel Reeves kept the gaming duty frozen until March 2026 and said a consultation will begin next year on proposals to bring online and other remote gambling into a single tax.
