BAE Systems fire at nuclear sub facility leaves two hospitalised

A large fire broke out early Wednesday near BAE Systems PLC's (LSE:BA.) facility in Barrow-in-Furness, northwest England, prompting emergency response from local fire crews and police.

The engineering giant operates a submarine division in Barrow responsible for assembling the UK's nuclear fleet.

Cumbria Police confirmed that there is no nuclear threat but advised nearby residents to stay indoors with doors and windows shut.

The fire, first reported around 12:44 am local time, resulted in two people being hospitalised for suspected smoke inhalation.

Images on social media showed heavy smoke and flames coming from an industrial area near the shipyard.
