Netflix executives exit as streamer plans to consolidate communications and policy leadership

Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX, ETR:NFC) plans to appoint a single executive to lead its corporate communications and policy teams, leading to the departure of chief communications officer Rachel Whetstone and vice president of public policy Dean Garfield from the streaming platform.

The changes were announced in a memo to staff from co-CEO Ted Sarandos on Tuesday.

“For nearly six years, Rachel and Dean have been not just leaders, but true partners,” Sarandos said in a statement.

“Their counsel, dedication and passion have shaped our company and contributed to our success. Greg [Peters, Netflix co-CEO] and I are incredibly grateful to them both, and wish them all the best for the future.”

A source told Reuters that Netflix is yet to identify any candidates for the new role of chief global affairs officer, who will lead Netflix's communications and public policy.

They also told the publication that Garfield does not have experience in communications and Whetstone was not interested in the position, leading to their exit from Netflix.
