TGI Fridays has shuttered another 49 of its restaurants across the United States during the last week as it reportedly approaches a bankruptcy filing.
The company started 2024 with 270 locations across the US, of which only 164 restaurants now remain, according to the website’s store locator.
Locations across several states were closed, including California, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Florida and Missouri.
Several closures also represented an exit from a city, such as Buffalo in New York or Columbus in Ohio.
The store closures come after Bloomberg earlier this month reported TGI Friday’s is preparing to file for bankruptcy protection in the next few weeks.
The company is reportedly meeting with lenders to secure financing to keep it operational while undergoing the Chapter 11 process.
Other restaurant chains have filed for bankruptcy this year, including Red Lobster and Buca di Beppo, as they, like TGI Fridays, have struggled amid changing consumer preferences and weaker spending, with cash-strapped diners opting for more affordable fast-casual options.
