Hillcrest Energy Technologies Ltd (CSE:HEAT, OTCQB:HLRTF) CEO Don Currie joined Proactive to discuss advancements in its Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) technology, an innovative inverter solution that offers a significant leap in efficiency by eliminating switching losses.
Currie highlighted that this technology is being tested with several Tier-1 automakers and suppliers.
Proactive: The company recently put out a letter updating where you're at. I know it’s been a busy time with a lot happening. Before we dive into details, can you remind everyone about the company and, more importantly, your ZVS technology?
Don Currie: Absolutely. We’ve been incredibly busy. Our Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) technology is an inverter solution with soft-switching capabilities. It operates at higher switching frequencies, eliminates switching losses, and provides substantial benefits across an electrical system. In simple terms, it’s an alternative to current technologies with proven advantages.
For those who may not know, what does an inverter do?
An inverter converts direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC) or vice versa. In electric vehicles, for example, the battery uses DC, while the motor operates on AC, so the power has to be converted. Our technology is the heartbeat of that system.
The update mentioned your work with Tier-1 automakers and suppliers. Can you give us an update on those discussions?
We’ve been demonstrating our technology for over a year now. Although the industry moves slower than we would like, every company we’ve demonstrated to has continued discussions with us. In fact, we’ve reached the final stages of demonstrations with at least two companies, including independent tests in certified labs. These discussions have progressed to the point where we’re looking at commercial and development projects with some very large Tier-1 suppliers.
That’s exciting. Are there any specific areas where you’re seeing interest?
Yes, there’s a lot of interest in integrating our technology into inverters. We’re also in discussions with five companies about applying the technology in onboard chargers. This has potential to eliminate the need for traditional onboard chargers in electric vehicles.
You’ve mentioned before that this technology offers multiple revenue streams. Could you elaborate on that?
Over the last year and a half, we’ve adapted to what customers need. We can offer a full inverter, supply specific components for their inverters, or even use the technology in new applications like onboard chargers. This flexibility helps us pursue near-term revenue opportunities.
I understand you’ve also been working closely with your partner in Germany. How has that collaboration impacted your progress?
Our partner Systematec has been invaluable. They have 20 years of experience in building inverter technology for the German automotive industry. Their credibility has helped us build strong relationships, particularly in Europe. We couldn’t be happier with the partnership—they’ve opened doors and provided expertise that’s been critical to our success.
