Los Andes Copper chair: Vizcachitas set to contribute to Net Zero goals amid rising copper demand

Los Andes Copper Ltd (TSX-V:LA) chair Eduardo Covarrubias told shareholders the company feels its Vizcachitas copper project is will be part of the solution to meet Net Zero goals.

The chair’s statement followed London Metal Exchange (LME) Week, which highlighted discussions around copper's crucial role in the global green transition.

A significant focus during the week was on sustainability and the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives required to support the transition to greener energies. The LME, along with several organizations, discussed efforts to enhance the sustainability of the metals traded in its system, further signaling the industry's commitment to this global shift.

Copper emerged as the standout topic during the discussions, receiving top recognition in a poll of base metals conducted at the LME Metals Seminar. Attendees voted copper as having the greatest potential upside for 2024, securing 46% of the votes, with tin following at 36%.

Copper prices reached record highs of over $11,100 per tonne earlier this year, and analysts predict a looming deficit in copper supply due to increasing demand from renewable energy initiatives.

Los Andes Copper, which wholly owns the Vizcachitas project in Chile, a large-scale copper deposit, stands positioned to help address this supply gap.

"It was pleasing to see industry experts reiterate their confidence in copper at LME Week 2024," Covarrubias said.

"The Vizcachitas project is set to be part of the solution as one of the largest development stage copper projects in the world."
