Market report October 14: ASX higher, Web Travel Group falls 35%

Market report October 14: ASX higher, Web Travel Group falls 35%

Proactive’s Tylah Tully provides a market wrap for October 14.

The ASX closed 0.47% higher at 8,252.8 points. Over the past five days, the index has gained 1.26% and is now just 0.4% below its 52-week high.

Among the top-performing stocks, Regis Resources rose by 6%, closing at $2.29, followed by Bellevue Gold, which increased by 4.41%, ending the day at $1.42 per share.

On the downside, Web Travel Group suffered a significant drop of 35.56%, closing at $4.53. This decline followed ia preliminary update on first-half results for its WebBeds business, despite a rise in Total Transaction Value (26%) and Bookings (22%). However, the company’s revenue margins fell due to the collapse of FTI Group, as well as the impact of major events like the Paris Olympics and the European Football Championship, leading to a 6.4% decline in margins.

Sector performance was mixed, with Materials leading the gains, up 1.3%, while Energy was the worst performer, down 1.26%.
