TikTok cutting hundreds of jobs it automates content moderation

TikTok is laying off several hundred employees globally, with many in Malaysia.

Most affected in Malaysia are content moderation workers, as the company shifts toward automation.

A TikTok spokesperson confirmed the changes are part of efforts to improve its global content moderation model, noting that 80% of violative content is now removed by automated systems.

While the number of layoffs in Malaysia wasn't disclosed, TikTok plans to invest $2 billion globally in trust and safety this year.

These layoffs align with broader restructuring at owner ByteDance, which has also cut jobs in Indonesia and restructured its gaming and virtual reality businesses due to regulatory challenges in the US and Europe.
