Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META, ETR:FB2A, SWX:FB)’s artificial intelligence assistant is set to be rolled out to six countries on Thursday, including the UK.
This will see Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger users in the UK able to access Meta AI through the company’s social media sites or on the web, alongside those in Brazil, Bolivia, Guatemala, Paraguay and the Philippines.
Meta had faced regulatory delays in introducing the model in the UK, while product testing was also said to have held up the launch.
The AI model is also yet to be rolled out in the European Union over what Meta has previously dubbed an “unpredictable” regulatory environment.
Thursday’s launch will also coincide with the release of Meta's Ray-Ban sunglasses, which, at £299, will also offer an AI-powered voice assistant.
Meta AI “will help people get answers to their questions, brainstorm content and bring their ideas to life in places where they can easily share the results with their local network and our broader global community,” according to the company.
This will be powered by Meta’s Llama 3.2 AI model, with the company having previously drawn scrutiny from users attempting to prevent the company using their posts to train the AI.
