The ASX closed slightly higher today, rising 0.13% to 8,187.4 points. The index remains largely unchanged over the past five days but is still 1.19% below its 52-week high.
The top-performing stocks were Zip Co, which increased by 6.25% to $2.89, and Block Inc (NYSE:SQ), which gained 4.35% to close at $101.43. In contrast, Min Res fell for the second consecutive day, dropping by 6.42% to $47.94, while Liontown declined by 5.39% to $0.79.
Among sectors, Information Technology rose by 1.41%, followed closely by Communication Services, which was up 1.40%. Energy performed the worst, falling by 2.45%, with Materials down 1.39%.
In global markets, US tech stocks saw gains, with Nvidia up by 4.4%. Meanwhile, oil prices dropped by nearly 5%, alongside declines in the US dollar and bond yields.
Geopolitical tensions appeared to subside and markets are awaiting a potential Israeli action against Iran. Investors are also looking ahead to the US earnings season, with analysts expecting positive market conditions.
The ASX is forecast to finish the year strongly, supported by Chinese stimulus measures and potential US interest rate cuts.
