Dara Khosrowshahi, chief executive of ride-hailing giant Uber Technologies Inc (NYSE:UBER, ETR:UT8), has called on passengers to donate a few minutes of their time to the green economy.
He urged customers to be patient when ordering a vehicle, stating that “a couple of minutes isn't going to kill anyone", in a BBC interview.
Uber provides to option to specifically order an EV.
"We're not saying, hey, wait 15 minutes, but if you have to wait another two, three minutes to help the environment, why not make that investment?" Khosrowshahi stated.
The majority of Uber vehicles are still either hybrids or have combustion engines, although Uber is aiming to have its entire London fleet 100% electric by the end of 2025.
This will be contingent on drivers investing in a fully electric vehicle, which Uber has sought to expedite with a £5,000 EV assistance package.
Khosrowshahi compelled the UK Labour party to commit to ending the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030, a policy that was scrapped by the previous administration.
