Google is collaborating with utilities in the US and other countries to explore nuclear power as a potential energy source for its data centres, reflecting a growing interest in atomic energy to support the AI boom, according to Bloomberg.
The report says Amanda Peterson Corio, the search giant's global head of data centre energy, stated that the company is working with generators to assess integrating nuclear power into the grid, particularly in regulated markets.
While no commitments have been made, Corio mentioned that nuclear energy could be considered in countries like Japan.
Other tech giants, including Microsoft and Amazon, are already investing in nuclear power for their data centres to meet rising electricity demands while reducing carbon emissions. Stable, non-intermittent energy is key to Google’s long-term growth.
