Fah Mai Holdings Group Inc (OTC:FMHG) UK head and manager of @whiskybullauctions Jacob Carter speaks to Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the rising demand for whisky casks as an investment. According to Carter, whisky casks have shown strong historical returns, with rare casks from distilleries like Macallan and Glenfiddich, appreciating by up to 30% per year. He highlighted how the whisky market is being driven by scarcity, the aging process, and increasing global demand, especially from emerging markets like Asia and North America.
Carter said estimates put 2023 sales at 12,000 and 15,000 casks, generating revenue between £200 and £250 million. He also pointed out the tax advantages in the UK, where whisky casks are exempt from capital gains tax, making them a more attractive investment. Moreover, Carter emphasised the resilience of whisky investments during economic downturns, noting how they outperformed many traditional assets during the COVID-19 pandemic.
