J Sainsbury PLC (LSE:SBRY) is taking on an additional 20,000 staff over Christmas as it gears up for the annual seasonal splurge.
Jobs will be available across the UK and last between three weeks and three months.
Around 18,000 roles have been earmarked for the grocery side of the business and 2,000 for Argos outlets.
Pay rates will be based on job type and location, starting at £12 and rising to £13.50 per hour for those in-store or in the warehouse, while drivers can earn between £13 and £14.65 per hour.
Prerana Issar, the group’s chief people officer, said: "As the festive season draws near, we're getting ready to create a memorable Christmas for our customers."
Sainsbury is the UK’s second-largest supermarket chain behind Tesco with both groups increasing their market share over the past year.
