Market report October 4: ASX down, materials drags

Proactive’s Tylah Tully gives a market wrap for October 4.

The ASX closed 0.67% lower today, ending at 8,150 points. Over the past five days, the index has dropped 0.76%, and it currently sits 1.64% below its 52-week high.

Among the top performers, Light & Wonder shares surged 7.78%, closing at $140.69. Viva Energy Group also posted strong results, rising 3.07% to trade at $3.02, making it another highlight in an otherwise difficult trading day.

On the downside, APA Group (ASX:APA) dropped 4%, closing at $7.44, while Champion Iron declined by 3.44%, finishing at $6.74. Both companies were notable laggards, contributing to the broader market decline.

Sector wise most declined. Energy was the standout performer, gaining 1.84%, while the Healthcare sector managed a marginal increase of 0.11%.

On the other hand, Materials was the worst-performing sector, down 1.18%. Information Technology also saw a notable drop of 1.16%, followed by Financials, which fell 1.04%.
