JD Sports shares on the up as sentiment improves

JD Sports Fashion PLC (LSE:JD.) updates on Wednesday (2 Oct) with investors' sentiment about the retailer seemingly perking up.

Expansion in the US continues at a steady pace with non-exec board appointments of experienced international retailers and marketers to keep the business on course.

Trainers and sportswear, too, remain areas of the fashion market seemingly untouched by worries over consumer spending.

Even where there are problems, Nike’s hiccoughs, for example, newer more youth-focused brands such as On and Hoka have stepped up to fill the gaps.

In August, JD said second-quarter organic growth was 8.3% or 2.4% like-for-like with guidance for full year underlying profits at between £0.95- £1.03 billion.

Consensus suggests the outcome will be at the bottom of the range but broker RBC recently suggested JD was one of the most attractively priced retail shares due to the possibility of earnings revisions and sentiment improving.

The shares at 154p are up 8% since the August update.
