London still tops for European tech investment

London continues to attract more tech venture capital money than any other city in Europe, new data has indicated.

Britain’s capital pulled in US$6.8 billion (£5.2 billion) in the first half of 2024 said Dealroom, which compiled the statistics, up 41% from this time a year ago.

Paris, second on the European list, pulled in US$4.2 billion with Much a distant third at US$ 1.6 billion, Berlin at US$1.4 billion and Stockholm at US$1.35 billion.

London still trails the US tech centres by some distance with Silicon Valley attracting US$38.8 billion, US$14.2 billion and Boston US$8.8 billion.

Dealroom added that investment in London accelerated as 2024 progressed with US4.4billion in the second quarter up 47% with fintech, transportation, enterprise software, energy and health software getting most of the cash.

London has also seen five new unicorns or businesses valued at more than US$ 1 billion created during 2024 -Wayve, EyeBio, Preqin, Intra Bio and Minute Media -taking its total to 111.
